Chicken Coop

Use the lock code to get keys to open the storage shed and the chicken coop.

Chickens need to drink CLEAN water! Please make sure they have plenty of water to make it through the day. 

Chickens need to eat! Please make sure they have plenty of food in their feeder. The food is kept in the silver can that is located in the storage shed. To fill the feed trough, remove it from the hook and scoop food in through the top, then replace it on the hook inside the coop. 

Treats are allowed, must be fresh and clean fruits and vegetables. NO CITRUS. (They love melons and cherry tomatoes) Frozen fruits in hot weather are an added bonus.

Please also check around the coop yard and remove any trash/objects that could hurt the chickens. 

You will need to clean your hands after working in the coop or after petting/holding the chickens. Do not touch your eyes, mouth, or face without cleaning your hands first.

Children should not hold chickens without adult permission. Remember to hold chickens loosely, but in a way in which they won’t fly or jump out of your hands.

DURING EXTREMELY COLD OR BAD WEATHER, THE CHICKENS SHOULD BE KEPT IN THE COOP, but please ensure they have plenty of food and unfrozen water.

¡Las gallinas necesitan agua LIMPIA! Asegúrese de que tengan suficiente agua para pasar el día. 

¡Las gallinas necesitan comer! Asegúrese de que tengan suficiente comida en el comedero. La comida se guarda en la lata de plata ubicada en el cobertizo de almacenamiento. Para llenar el comedero, retírelo del gancho y saque los alimentos por la parte superior, luego vuelva a colocarlo en el gancho dentro del gallinero.

Se permiten golosinas, deben ser frutas y verduras limpias y frescas. NO CÍTRICOS. (Les encantan los melones y los tomates cherry) Las frutas congeladas en climas cálidos son una ventaja adicional.

Por favor, también revise el patio del gallinero y retire cualquier basura/objeto que pueda lastimar a las gallinas.

Deberá lavarse las manos después de trabajar en el gallinero o después de acariciar / sostener a las gallinas. No se toque los ojos, la boca o la cara sin antes lavarse las manos.

Los niños no deben sostener las gallinas sin el permiso de un adulto. Recuerde sujetar las gallinas sin apretarlas, pero de una manera que no vuelen ni salten de sus manos.

DURANTE EL TIEMPO EXTREMADAMENTE FRÍO O MALO, LAS GALLINAS DEBEN MANTENERSE EN EL GALLINERO, pero asegúrese de que tengan suficiente comida y agua no congelada.

1. Do you have a rooster? No, all chickens are female and without a rooster, each egg is unfertilized and edible. 

2. Aren’t they cold in the winter weather? Chickens adapt to the weather and stay warm with their down feathers. The coop is not insulated and does not have a heat lamp to allow chickens to adapt. 

3. Aren’t the chickens too hot in the summer? We have installed air vents through the roof of the coop for ventilation as well as windows that open and close. We also have a fan that helps keep our chickens cool during the summer.  Our chickens also stay cool using dirt baths and frozen fruits from volunteers. 

4. What do you do with the eggs? Volunteers keep the eggs they find during their shift. Volunteers come to help take care of our coop, the chickens, and the area. The volunteers get “paid” with the eggs.

1. ¿Tienen un gallo? No, todas las gallinas son hembras y sin un gallo, cada huevo no está fertilizado y es comestible.

2. ¿No hacen frío en invierno? Los pollos se adaptan al clima y se mantienen calientes con sus plumones. El gallinero no está aislado y no tiene una lámpara de calor para permitir que las gallinas se adapten.

3. ¿No hacen demasiado calor las gallinas en verano? Hemos instalado salidas de aire a través del techo del gallinero para ventilación, así como ventanas que se abren y cierran. También tenemos un ventilador que ayuda a mantener fresco nuestro gallinero. Nuestras gallinas también se mantienen frescas con baños de tierra y frutas congeladas de voluntarios.

4. ¿Qué haces con los huevos? Los voluntarios conservan los huevos que encuentran durante su turno. Los voluntarios vienen para ayudar a cuidar nuestro gallinero, las gallinas y el área. A los voluntarios se les “paga” con los huevos.
